Beyoncé’s father, Matthew Knowles, has expressed his frustration over Cowboy Carter’s exclusion from the 2024 CMA Awards. In an exclusive interview with TMZ, Knowles voiced his confusion over the chart-topping song’s absence from major categories, including Single of the Year, Song of the Year, Album of the Year, and Female Vocalist of the Year.
The 72-year-old suggested that the snub may have been racially motivated, highlighting racial dynamics within the music industry. He remarked, “There’s more white people in America and unfortunately they don’t vote based on ability and achievements; it’s still sometimes a white and black thing.”
Despite the oversight, Knowles, who previously managed Beyoncé, stated that his daughter’s work “speaks for itself.” He also noted that he is not surprised by the situation, given the “current state of American culture,” adding that “there’s no accountability for people not being accepting of other cultures.”
Beyoncé had first teased her eighth album during the Super Bowl earlier this year, with the full release in March featuring collaborations with several A-list artists.
