MAIDUGURI: A devastating fuel tanker truck explosion in north-central Nigeria on Sunday resulted in the deaths of at least 48 people, according to the State Emergency Management Agency. The explosion occurred after the fuel truck collided with another vehicle carrying travelers and cattle. Several other vehicles were involved in the accident, contributing to the high death toll.
The agency’s spokesperson, Hussaini Ibrahim, confirmed the number of fatalities and stated that efforts to clear the accident scene are ongoing.
Recently, Nigeria’s state-owned NNPC Ltd increased gasoline prices by at least 39%, the second significant rise in over a year. This hike has led to continued fuel shortages, causing long queues for motorists in major cities and towns across the country.
