Legendary actor Sir Ian McKellen has voiced unexpected opinions about the royal family, showing support for Prince Harry in a recent interview.
During a conversation with *The Times*, the 85-year-old actor expressed sympathy for Harry and his controversial remarks about the late Queen, while promoting a copy of Harry’s memoir, *Spare*.
McKellen remarked, “Imagine being born into the royal family. I’ve been in public life a bit, but these people are in prison.” He added, “They can’t do anything normal. Can you imagine having to be nice to everyone you talk to?”
Prince Harry, who is preparing to celebrate his birthday, has made several critical statements about the royal family in interviews and in his memoir since stepping back from his duties alongside his wife Meghan in 2020.
In a bombshell CBS interview in 2021, Harry revealed, “My family literally cut me off financially, and I [needed to be able to] afford security for us.” He also shared, “I will always love [my family], but there’s a lot of hurt that’s happened. I will continue to make it one of my priorities to try and heal that relationship.”
