Meghan Markle has reportedly upset the royal family with what has been described as a “dreadful” mistake during a sensitive moment marking the anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II’s death.
The Duchess of Sussex spoke about embracing a “joyful” chapter in her life during a speech at Oprah Winfrey’s book club event in Summerland, California. Meghan said, “I’m looking at this time as my chapter of joy. The more you are able to look at your life and really, truly recognize and be able to be grateful for your life—you have to be grateful for all aspects of it.”
However, her remarks coincided with the day King Charles was mourning the passing of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II. Royal biographer Richard Fitzwilliam criticized Meghan’s appearance, telling GB News, “It was an absolutely dreadful choice of venue to appear at, especially on such a significant [death] anniversary.”
Fitzwilliam added, “We all know the infamous interview Meghan and Harry gave on Oprah. The Queen’s comment, ‘Some recollections may vary,’ sums it up very well. But this was an absolutely tasteless place to be seen.”
Many royal fans also expressed their belief that Meghan’s appearance mocked the grieving royal family.
