Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan on Saturday urged Islamic countries to unite against what he described as “the growing threat of expansionism” from Israel. This call came as Israeli military strikes across the Gaza Strip resulted in the deaths of at least 61 people over the past 48 hours.
Erdogan’s remarks followed the reported killing of a Turkish-American woman by Israeli troops during a protest against settlement expansion in the Israeli-occupied West Bank. He emphasized that forming an alliance of Islamic countries is the only way to counter what he termed Israeli arrogance and state terrorism.
In Gaza, recent Israeli airstrikes have targeted various locations, including a school compound in Jabalia and residential areas in Gaza City, causing significant casualties. Despite numerous diplomatic efforts, including those by Qatar, Egypt, and the United States, a ceasefire deal remains elusive.
CIA Director William Burns indicated that the US is preparing a new, detailed proposal for peace talks. However, progress remains uncertain as both sides continue to blame each other for the stalled negotiations.
