TAXILA: As part of the Punjab Chief Minister’s Agriculture Transformation Programme, more than 1,200 Kisan cards were distributed to farmers across six tehsils of Attock district on Saturday.
The programme aims to distribute a total of 27,122 Kisan cards to farmers in the district, with recipients selected through a balloting process.
A ceremony was held at the district’s agriculture office to mark the launch, attended by a large number of farmers, local peasants, agriculture officials, and community leaders.
Addressing the gathering, Deputy Commissioner Rao Atif Raza announced that the distribution of Kisan cards had officially begun in the district. He emphasized that the initiative would bring significant transformation to the agriculture sector in Punjab, improving the prosperity of farmers.
Mr. Raza highlighted that the Kisan Card Programme focuses on reducing production costs and making modern agriculture practices more accessible and profitable for farmers. He added that distribution centers have been established in all six tehsils of the district: 1,423 cards in Attock, 906 in Hazro, 1,041 in Hassanabdal, 3,985 in Fatehjang, 2,107 in Pindigheb, and 2,635 in Jand.
The Kisan cards will allow farmers to purchase fertilizers, pesticides, and registered seed varieties for wheat, cotton, pulses, and oilseeds like sesame and sunflower at subsidized rates.
Dr. Mohammad Javaid, Director of Agriculture, said that all distribution centers were equipped with proper facilities and seating arrangements for farmers. He noted that the registration process for the Kisan Card is being expanded daily and is progressing swiftly in Attock.
He also emphasized that having a Kisan Card is mandatory for farmers to access benefits such as solar tube-wells, tractors, and concrete water channels. Farmers with land holdings between 1 acre and 12.5 acres are eligible for the card. Additionally, farmers can avail themselves of low-interest loans and crop insurance, while also receiving subsidies on agricultural machinery and solar systems.
