Tom Suozzi, a Democratic Congressman from New York, has been appointed as the new Chairman of the Pakistan Caucus in the US Congress, succeeding Sheila Jackson Lee, who recently passed away.
Serving in Congress since 2017, Suozzi has pledged to strengthen the bilateral relationship between Pakistan and the United States. In a statement, he expressed his enthusiasm for his new role and his commitment to enhancing cooperation between the two nations.
Following his appointment, Dr. Asif Riaz Qadeer, a Democratic leader, and community leader Tanveer Ahmed met with Suozzi and extended an invitation for him to visit Pakistan. Suozzi accepted the invitation and is scheduled to visit the country in November.
The late Sheila Jackson Lee, the former chair of the Pakistan Caucus, was a fervent advocate for Pakistan, especially during times of natural disasters. She was honored with the Hilal-e-Pakistan by the Government of Pakistan for her contributions.
