KABUL: A suicide bombing in Kabul’s Qala-e-Bakhtiar area on Monday afternoon resulted in six fatalities and thirteen injuries, according to police. The attacker, who detonated explosives strapped to their body, was responsible for the violence, which claimed the life of one woman among the dead.
Kabul police spokesman Khalid Zadran confirmed the incident and noted that the injured were promptly taken to hospitals. Investigations into the attack are ongoing, though no group has yet claimed responsibility.
Despite a general decrease in violence since the Taliban’s takeover in 2021, several militant factions, including the regional chapter of Da’ish, remain active. The Taliban have emphasized security as a top priority since regaining power, but analysts argue that they often minimize or delay reporting on attacks.
The last suicide attack claimed by Da’ish occurred in Kandahar in March, with conflicting reports on the number of casualties. Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid previously asserted that Da’ish’s presence has been significantly reduced and that no groups pose a significant threat.
