RAWALPINDI: Off-spinner Mehidy Hasan Miraz delivered a stellar performance on Saturday, claiming five wickets to help Bangladesh dismiss Pakistan for 274 on the second day of the second and final Test at Pindi Cricket Stadium.
Miraz, who had a notable impact in the first Test with a key role in Bangladesh’s 10-wicket victory, took 5-61, marking his 10th five-wicket haul in Test cricket. He was supported by fast bowler Taskin Ahmed, who added 3-57, exploiting a greenish pitch with more bounce than the one used in the series opener.
Despite a good effort from Pakistan’s batsmen, including half-centuries from Saim Ayub (58), Shan Masood (57), and Salman Ali Agha (54), none could build a substantial innings. Taskin struck early, dismissing Abdullah Shafique for a duck, and later removed key batsmen Shan Masood and Saud Shakeel.
Miraz’s spell saw him dismiss Saim Ayub, Shan Masood, Saud Shakeel, and tail-enders Khurram Shahzad, Mohammad Ali, and Abrar Ahmed.
At stumps, Bangladesh were 10 for no loss, with Shadman Islam and Zakir Hasan at the crease. The first day of the Test was washed out, adding pressure to the remaining days.
Pakistan made two changes for this Test, resting Shaheen Shah Afridi and Naseem Shah, bringing in Hamza and Abrar Ahmed. The current match conditions and Bangladesh’s promising start suggest a competitive remainder of the game.
