Gwyneth Paltrow is experiencing mixed emotions as she prepares to send her son off to college. The 51-year-old actress opened up about her feelings during an Instagram Q&A on Friday, where she candidly responded to fans’ questions.
Paltrow, who shares her 18-year-old son with Coldplay frontman Chris Martin, admitted she isn’t mentally prepared for the transition to an ’empty nester’ as her son gets ready to leave home.
When one fan asked if she had dropped both of her kids off at college, Paltrow responded in a video message, “Not yet.” Her son then chimed in, “She hasn’t quite gotten rid of me.”
Previously, Paltrow spoke to *The Sunday Times* about the “impending” sense of “grief” she feels with this major life change. She expressed having mixed feelings, saying, “On one hand, incredible sadness. A deep sense of impending grief. On the other hand, this is exactly what should be happening.”
Reflecting on her daughter Apple’s departure for college, Paltrow recalled feeling like the “love of her life” had broken up with her, underscoring the emotional challenge of watching her children grow up and leave home.
