The search continues for Mike Lynch, often dubbed the “Bill Gates of Britain,” and his 18-year-old daughter Hannah Lynch, who went missing along with four others after their yacht sank during a tornado in Sicily. The yacht, identified as the British vessel Bayesian, went down off the coast of Palermo around 5 a.m. local time.
According to Italian newspaper *La Repubblica*, one individual, believed to be the yacht’s Canadian chef, has been confirmed dead. The Palermo Port Authority has identified the deceased as Recaldo Thomas, a Canadian national residing in Antigua. Four people remain unaccounted for.
The yacht was carrying 22 people, including 10 crew members and 12 passengers. Salvo Cocina from Sicily’s civil protection agency described the tragedy as a case of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Key figures still missing include Jonathan Bloomer, chairman of Morgan Stanley International, and Chris Morvillo, a lawyer at Clifford Chance.
Hannah Lynch has yet to be found, while her mother, Angela Bacares, was among the 15 individuals rescued. Charlotte Golunski, a mother who managed to keep her one-year-old baby afloat amid the chaos, recounted, “It was all dark. In the water I couldn’t keep my eyes open. I screamed for help, but all I could hear around me were the screams of others.”
