ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced on Monday that the completion of the Information Technology Park in Islamabad will be a pivotal step towards achieving Pakistan’s $25 billion IT export target.
During a meeting to assess the progress of ongoing IT projects and digitization efforts, the prime minister expressed approval of the IT Park’s development. He directed officials to consult with Korean experts to expedite the project, which has seen its completion deadline revised from June 2025 to February 2025. The Capital Development Authority is actively overseeing the project’s progress.
The meeting was attended by several key officials, including Ministers Ahsan Iqbal, Ahad Khan Cheema, Muhammad Aurangzeb, and Attaullah Tarar, as well as Minister of State for IT Shaza Fatima Khawaja, Deputy Chairman of the Planning Commission Jehanzaib Khan, and other senior officials.
In a separate directive, Prime Minister Shehbaz instructed authorities to shift 50 percent of all public sector cargo to Gwadar Port. This decision was made during a review of Chinese investments in Pakistan, where he was briefed on the recent visit of a Chinese delegation. The delegation’s visit, which took place from July 30 to August 6, resulted in significant advances in cooperation and investment in trade, energy, agriculture, IT, communication, and infrastructure.
The meeting also highlighted plans to hire Chinese experts to boost domestic exports and remove non-trade barriers, and to organize promotional events in various Chinese cities to increase the export of Pakistani products.
