The auditorium at Birdville High School in North Richland Hills was alive with activity as young actors rehearsed for their final production of *Anastasia* with the Artisan Center Theater.
“Everyone in places,” Director and Choreographer Cameron Byerly urged, clapping to get everyone’s attention. “As soon as the music starts, go!”
Byerly described the show as ‘intensive,’ given the three-week timeframe to complete set construction, stage blocking, lighting, and rehearsals for lines, choreography, and music.
“It’s been hectic,” Byerly said. “I don’t know how we managed to get the show together, but here we are!”
This performance marks the end of an era for the Artisan Center Theater, which is closing after 21 years. Financial and personal difficulties led to the theater being locked out of its space in March. After this show, the theater will cease operations.
“I am dreading the Sunday performance,” Artisan Center Theater Co-Founder and President Richard Blair said, his eyes filled with tears. “Community theater provides something unique that you can’t find anywhere else. It’s heartbreaking to see so many of them closing.”
*Anastasia* will be the Artisan Center Theater’s final production.
“I know it’s really emotional for many of these kids,” Byerly added. “Some of them have been with us since they were just three or four years old.”
“It’s really sad,” said 12-year-old Trinity McCallum, who has been with the theater since she was three. “I love how we’re all so connected and feel like a big family.”
“You and I may part ways, but the connections formed here will last a lifetime,” Blair said, wiping away a tear. “That’s what I’ll miss the most.”
