HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — Three men have been charged and arrested for allegedly causing significant damage to Deer Park High School, totaling tens of thousands of dollars.
According to charging documents, the incident occurred on July 16 at approximately 10:30 p.m. Surveillance footage captured three masked individuals breaking into the school’s South Campus. During their time on the campus, they damaged 14 monitors, two computers, seven printers, one phone, seven keyboards, seven LG monitors, four desks, four chairs, and a classroom floor. The estimated damage ranged from $30,000 to $50,000.
A staff member recognized one of the suspects because red hair was visible under a mask. Court documents suggest that one of the suspects may be a former or current student. Additionally, prosecutors noted that a fire was started in the parking lot of a nearby vision care center.
One of the suspects, upon identification and interrogation, admitted that they initially entered the school out of curiosity but then began vandalizing the property. Another suspect confessed to breaking various items inside the school, including tearing down a photo of a girl one of them knew.
The suspects, identified as 19-year-old Benjamin Jasso, 18-year-old Christian Tyson, and 19-year-old Sebastian Garcia Guillen, have been charged with criminal mischief. All three reportedly work together at a Walmart on Spencer Highway and have since posted bond.
