A man in Fort Worth died on Sunday while attempting to save a child from drowning in a river near Gateway Park.
The Fort Worth Fire Department informed NBC 5 that a middle-aged man jumped into the river to rescue a child near Gateway Park Mile Marker GW140. The child was reported to be in OK condition, but the man did not resurface.
First responders said that multiple crews, including two engine companies, a truck company, a dive team, two chiefs, and one medic, were dispatched to the scene.
Dive teams searched underwater and eventually located the man’s body in a deeper part of the river. The identity of the victim has not yet been released by law enforcement.
