Texas GOP delegates have made their voices heard, officially nominating former President Donald Trump as the party’s candidate this afternoon in Wisconsin.
Trump has chosen Ohio Senator J.D. Vance as his running mate for vice president.
Delegates from North Texas attending the convention in Milwaukee describe a mix of excitement and awareness of heightened security following the recent attempted assassination of Trump during a campaign rally in Pennsylvania.
Abraham George, chairman of the Republican Party of Texas, expressed confidence in Trump and Vance’s ability to lead.
“We’re ready to support President Trump and now VP Vance all the way to victory,” George said.
Reflecting on the assassination attempt, George emphasized that such violence has no place in American politics.
Jonathan Saenz, a Texas delegate from Austin, acknowledged the weight of the recent events and their impact on the convention’s atmosphere.
“Many of us are still processing what happened on Saturday and its implications,” Saenz noted.
Texas delegates anticipate that the events of the weekend will influence the tone of the convention over the next four days and potentially shape the political landscape in the coming years, depending on Trump’s message during his planned remarks on Thursday.
“After enduring such a traumatic event, if Trump steps on stage and calls for unity and a better future for our children, it will resonate deeply with all Americans,” George concluded.
