HARRIS COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) — A man accused of shooting at deputies and later holding a woman hostage has been taken into custody, Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez announced Friday night.
“The male has been taken into custody without further incident and the female is safe. Outstanding work by @HCSOSWAT and all our teammates on-scene,” Gonzalez tweeted.
The suspect was apprehended after a two-hour standoff during which he allegedly held a woman against her will. The incident began when deputies came under fire while responding to the 500 block of Normandy Street near Greens Bayou.
Fortunately, no deputies were injured during the ordeal, and the woman was safely rescued.
This incident occurred just 48 hours after 28-year-old Deputy Fernando Esqueda was killed while investigating an alleged assault in a separate shooting. Sheriff Gonzalez stated that 44-year-old Ronald “Ronnie” Palmer faces a capital murder charge in connection with Deputy Esqueda’s death.
