HARRIS COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) — Another tragic death has been confirmed in connection with Hurricane Beryl, this time in Galveston County.
According to the Galveston County Sheriff’s Office, a 71-year-old woman passed away in Crystal Beach after losing power and running out of oxygen while in her travel trailer. Her body was discovered after a concerned neighbor checked on her early Monday during the storm.
Authorities have not released the woman’s identity.
This incident marks the latest fatality linked to the devastating impacts of Hurricane Beryl across the region.
In Harris County, four deaths were reported, including a Houston Police Department employee who tragically drowned while en route to work. Two deaths were attributed to fallen trees: one in Atascocita where a tree collapsed onto a one-story home, resulting in a fatality, and another in Ponderosa Forest where 73-year-old Maria Loredo lost her life when a tree struck her home near IH-45 and FM 1960.
Another Harris County resident, aged 77, lost his life when his vehicle was swept into a wall by the current of White Oak Bayou while attempting to navigate high water on a bridge along the 2600 block of North Main Street.
In Montgomery County, three deaths occurred during the storm. Among them, a man and woman were tragically killed while sleeping in a tent behind a Dollar General when a large tree toppled over. Additionally, another man lost his life when a tree fell on him while he was operating a tractor to clear debris.
Authorities continue to investigate these incidents as part of the aftermath of Hurricane Beryl.
