HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — The Houston Zoo will remain closed on Tuesday as it clears debris left by Hurricane Beryl. Despite the ongoing cleanup, all animals were kept safe in their barns and night houses, with a dedicated team continuing to care for them.
The storm made landfall in Matagorda, bringing life-threatening conditions. On Monday, highways were flooded, and downed trees littered yards, intersections, and neighborhoods. As the area transitions to recovery mode, several businesses will also remain closed for at least another day.
City of Houston Municipal Courts
– The City of Houston Municipal Courts Department will be closed on Tuesday. Normal court operations will resume on Wednesday.
– Case resets for Monday, July 8, and Tuesday, July 9, will occur in person at all City of Houston court locations from Wednesday through Tuesday, July 16, until 5 p.m.
– No trials by judge or jury. Resets will be given in person at all city court locations from Wednesday through Tuesday, July 16, until 5 p.m. Scheduled court settings will resume Wednesday.
– No arraignments. Those scheduled for arraignments during this period must come in person from Wednesday through Tuesday, July 16, to receive a new arraignment date.
– No parking adjudication hearings. Hearings will resume on Wednesday.
– No jury service. Jury service will resume on Wednesday. Rescheduling is not necessary if scheduled during the closure period.
Harris County court system
– Many Harris County Justice Courts will remain closed on Tuesday. Dockets will be reset, and jury duty is canceled. The most up-to-date list of Justice Court Closures can be found online.
Houston City Council public session
– Tuesday’s city council public session is postponed. A consolidated city council meeting will be held on Wednesday at 9 a.m.
Fort Bend County offices
– Fort Bend County offices and facilities were closed Monday. Normal operations are expected to resume on Tuesday.
Houston Museum of Natural Science
– The Houston Museum of Natural Science, including its Sugar Land location and George Observatory, was closed on Monday. The museum plans to reopen on Tuesday, July 9.
METRO services
– METRO Park & Ride and METRORail will remain suspended on Tuesday. Several local bus routes resumed service at 8 a.m. Travelers should allow extra time for delays and detours. The resuming local routes include: 02, 08, 20, 26, 28, 38, 39, 40, 44, 50, 52, 54, 56, 63, 65, 73, 80, 82, 85, and 89.
Surfside Beach
– Surfside Beach closed for access beginning Sunday evening. Police reported that the island is now closed to traffic and they are not taking 911 calls due to impassable roads.
