HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — A suspect is in custody following a standoff on Houston’s westside that involved gunfire, according to the Houston Police Department.
The incident began shortly after 6 a.m. Saturday at a residence in the 9600 block of Meadowvale Drive.
HPD reported that a woman was returning home when the suspect allegedly fired an assault-style weapon at her.
Officers were immediately notified and responded to the scene, followed by the SWAT team. Officials stated that the suspect discarded the weapon before police arrived.
Inside the home were four children and a grandmother, all of whom were able to escape safely and were unharmed.
During the standoff, officials deployed a robot device to locate the suspect, who was found in a bedroom and subsequently arrested.
The suspect, who has a prior arrest record, is now facing a possible aggravated assault charge.
HPD did not provide details on the relationship between the suspect, the woman, and those inside the home.
