In Houston’s Fourth Ward, a toddler has been discharged from the hospital days after sustaining gunshot wounds during a drive-by shooting, as confirmed by his mother, Aisha Howard.
Braylon Benoit, Howard’s 2-year-old son, returned home on Tuesday, with his mother sharing plans for a dinosaur-themed welcome home party on Monday.
The incident occurred when Braylon was playing with his dinosaur toys outside their residence and became caught in the crossfire of a drive-by shooting, sustaining two gunshot wounds on Friday.
Houston Police Department reported that witnesses observed four vehicles passing by the 1300 block of Gillette Street, with at least 40 shots fired as they crossed Ruthven Street around 6:30 p.m.
Investigators continue to seek a motive for the shooting, considering possibilities such as conflict between groups in different vehicles or a random drive-by shooting targeting a group of people.
Police recovered casings from two firearms, indicating the involvement of at least two shooters, one wielding a rifle and the other a handgun.
Howard, along with her family and friends, claim to have identified the suspects and shared their names and social media videos boasting about the shooting with authorities. However, no charges have been filed against anyone at this time.
Authorities urge anyone with information about the incident to contact the Houston Police Department or Crime Stoppers of Houston directly.
