Weatherford Police arrested John Smith, a Fort Worth police officer, on Thursday on charges of assault causing bodily injury and continuous violence against the family. Smith was off duty at the time of his arrest, as confirmed by a statement from Fort Worth Police.
Upon learning of Smith’s arrest, the Fort Worth Police Department’s Internal Affairs Unit promptly initiated an investigation. Smith has been placed on restricted duty and has been relieved of all police powers pending the outcome of the investigations.
Weatherford Police declined to provide further details to safeguard the privacy of the victims and maintain the integrity of the investigation.
Smith, who has been with the department for nine years, was assigned to the Patrol Bureau.
