In Houston’s Westchase area over the weekend, a tragic incident unfolded as a mother shielded her children from gunfire, ultimately losing her life, as confirmed by her family.
Houston Police Department officers were called to the scene around 8 p.m. on Friday at the 3100 block of Elmside Drive near Meadowglen Lane.
According to authorities, a 37-year-old woman, identified as Isha Goff by her family, was driving home with her two sons when they were targeted by two unidentified suspects who opened fire without warning.
Despite efforts by paramedics, the mother succumbed to her injuries at the scene, while her children, who were in the car during the shooting, escaped physical harm.
Described as a devoted mother, healthcare worker, and musician, Goff leaves behind a 13-year-old, a 4-year-old, and a 1-year-old.
Gladys Pratt Seahorn, Goff’s godmother and pastor, recounted the harrowing incident, stating that Goff shielded her oldest son from the gunfire as the assailants approached the vehicle.
The family is still grappling with the shock of the incident, with Seahorn emphasizing the need for justice and awareness of the dangers lurking in communities.
Although authorities are uncertain whether the shooting was targeted or random, the intersection where the incident occurred has seen 26 police responses this year alone.
Seahorn urged anyone with information about the suspects to reach out to the Houston Police Department at 713-308-8800 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
