A woman from the Heights neighborhood was walking her dog when she was struck by a construction worker operating a forklift near Houston Avenue on Wednesday morning, as reported by the Houston Police Department to ABC13.
According to police, the woman was hit while she was crossing the street in a crosswalk. After the incident, the construction worker attempted to flee in his personal vehicle. Nearby residents reported that several witnesses intervened to stop the man.
Identified by her family as Hannah, the woman sustained leg injuries. While Hannah is reportedly in fair condition, tragically, her dog named Moose was killed in the accident.
The worker, a 27-year-old man, has been detained by officers, although charges have not yet been filed.
