According to the Arlington Police Department, a 31-year-old man was reportedly “walking” on the tracks as a train approached in the 1500 block of W. Division Street near Fielder Road around 3 p.m. on Saturday.
The man’s presence on the tracks, for reasons unknown, led to a train conductor informing officers that the pedestrian was walking on the railroad tracks when he was struck by the locomotive.
The injured pedestrian was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries. As a consequence of the collision, the train halted, obstructing multiple railroad crossings in the Downtown Arlington area.
The blocked crossings remained inaccessible until approximately 6:00 p.m., when the scene was cleared, allowing the train to resume its journey.
Arlington Police urges the public to refrain from walking on railroad tracks. If individuals need to cross them, they are advised to use designated railroad crossings to ensure they are alerted to any approaching trains and can safely cross.
