ISLAMABAD: Muzammil Murtaza defeated Mohammad Shoaib to claim the Benazir Bhutto Shaheed National Ranking Tennis Championship title here at the Islamabad Tennis Complex on Sunday.
Muzammil — who downed veteran Aqeel Khan in the semi-final on Saturday — cruised to a comfortable 6-1, 7-5 victory against Shoaib.
Sara Mehboob mirrored Muzammil’s success as she clinched the women’s crown with a convincing 7-5, 6-1 win against Amna Ali.
Amna later made amend for the loss as she romped past Shiza Sajid 6-3, 6-2 to secure the Under-18 title.
In the boys Under-12 final, Shayan Afridi routed Raziq Sultan 4-0, 4-2 while Rashid Ali Bachani outclassed Mohammad Faizan to lift the boys Under-10 trophy.
Earlier on Saturday, Ahmed Nael came from a set down to beat Hamza Haziq 3-6, 6-2, 6-3 in the boys Under-18 decider while Hassan Usmani crushed Muzammil Bhand 6-1, 6-0 to claim the boys Under-14 honours.
The duo of Muzammil and Shoaib defeated the pair of Mohammad Waqas Malik and Mohammad Abid 7-6(4), 6-3 to secure the men’s double title while the 45-plus doubles final witnessed Rashid Ali and Israr Gul emerging victorious.
