HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — Severe weather is possible Monday from Southeast Texas to Louisiana ahead of a cold front that will usher in chilly weather for Thanksgiving week.
At this time the risk of severe weather for Houston is low, but it will steadily increase as you travel northeast into Louisiana. Any storms that pop up on Monday could rotate and produce severe weather, including tornadoes.
Around sunrise it will be mostly cloudy with spotty showers and mild temperatures in the mid 60s. It’s around noon that a line of thunderstorms will develop in Southeast Texas, with the bulk of the stormy weather north of Houston and closer to Huntsville. This broken line of showers and thunderstorms will clear out of Houston by 3 p.m. and all of Southeast Texas by 5 p.m. Rain chances will be lowest south of I-10.
Because the showers and storms will move so quickly, rain accumulations will be less than half an inch for most, and flooding is not a concern with this weather system.
High temperatures will manage to touch the 80 degree mark in many spots before the cold front blows in during the evening.
How cold will it get behind the front?
Temperatures Monday night will drop into the 50s, and highs on Tuesday will only rebound into the 60s. Tuesday night’s temperatures will then dip into the 40s and struggle to climb out of the 50s on Wednesday as clouds increase ahead of our next weather system.
Does Thanksgiving still look cool and dry?
Cool, yes. Dry? No. A rainy weather disturbance now looks to blow in on Thanksgiving Day, pumping widespread rain showers over the chilly air. We are now predicting a 60% chance for light to moderate rain showers with temperatures stuck in the 50s all day. At this time it appears all the heavy rain associated with this weather system will stay offshore, and the highest chance for rain will be during the first half of the day.
Will there be more rain after Thanksgiving into the weekend?
All of Friday and most all of Saturday now look to be dry! So you shouldn’t have to plan around any rainy weather if you’re hitting the shopping malls after Thanksgiving Day. Until Sunday, that is. It appears that the week after Thanksgiving will kick off with another chilly, wet weather system that brings widespread showers and highs in the 50s as we head back to work and school.
