A 22-year-old man facing a murder charge in a fatal July shooting in Balch Springs turned himself in at the Dallas County jail Friday, authorities said.
John Edward Rivera surrendered with his attorney accompanying him, Balch Springs police spokesman Pedro Gonzalez said. His bail had not been set Friday afternoon.
A warrant had been issued for Rivera in connection with a July 22 shooting in the 11300 block of Lake June Road near Peachtree Road.
A 911 caller said a man, later identified as 39-year-old Bertin Albarran, was shot and left in the road while the assailant fled in a red Chevrolet Camaro. Detectives found the Camaro and Albarran’s cellphone, police said.
They also acquired security footage from a nearby business that showed the gunman in the driver’s seat of the Camaro and Albarran exiting the passenger seat. Police said Albarran was shot multiple times while standing outside the car.
Police said Rivera was with Albarran at a house party before the shooting but did not release information about a possible motive.
Gonzalez said authorities are looking for Rivera’s father, 42-year-old Juan Rivera, who faces an evidence tampering charge related to the shooting.
