KARACHI: Pakistani cueists had a mixed start in the Asian 6-Reds Snooker Championship which commenced in Tehran on Thursday.
The incumbent Asian U-21 champion Ahsan Ramzan got his campaign running with a 2-4 loss to Iraq’s Ali Hussein in his opening Group ‘A’ fixture. Hussein was home 34-28, 0-67, 33-32, 1-48, 38-22, 32-3.
Ahsan, however, made a comeback when he sent Bahrain’s Hisham Rashid Alsaqer packing 4-1 with the scores being 45-10, 41-0, 63-11, 35-42, 40-0.
His compatriot Haris Tahir conjured up a 4-1 victory over Qatar’s Khamis Alobaidli in Group ‘K’. Haris won the duel 42-25, 53-15, 51-0, 6-35, 50-16. As many as 37 players including eight from the host nation are taking part in the event.
