A 39-year-old Dallas man died in police custody on Wednesday, according to a Thursday news release from the Dallas Police Department.
At about 11 a.m., police were conducting a traffic stop involving a person of interest in an ongoing murder investigation. Officers transported the man to police headquarters to be interviewed.
He was taken into custody on outstanding warrants and without incident, police said.
Shortly after the interview, the man, identified Thursday as Xzavier Franklin, told police he was feeling ill. Dallas Fire-Rescue was notified and brought the man to the hospital, arriving at 4:10 p.m. on Wednesday. He died at the hospital at 9 p.m., according to police.
Results of a toxicology report are pending and an autopsy will be performed Friday.
