A tornado warning has expired Thursday night for northern Collin County and adjacent counties to the north and east. But a heat advisory remains in effect for much of North Texas.
A tornado watch also expired for nearly a dozen North and Central Texas counties, including Dallas and Rockwell.
The heat advisory, which expires at 8 p.m. Friday, covers about two dozen counties, including Dallas, Tarrant, Ellis and Kaufman. High temperatures mixed with high humidity means heat index values were projected to reach anywhere from 106 to 112 degrees.
A watch means conditions are favorable for tornadoes to form, while a warning means a tornado is currently happening.
Temperatures are expected to reach triple digits for the first time this year by the end of the week.
“Remember to stay hydrated, limit time outside during peak heating, and if you must be outdoors, wear lightweight and light-colored clothing,” the weather service said.
Dry skies are ahead, the weather service said, but before then storms are possible Saturday evening into early Sunday morning. Some of those storms could be severe, bringing with them large hail and damaging winds, according to the weather service.
The heat continues this weekend & next week. One last round of storms (some severe) are possible late Saturday before we switch to mainly dry but HOT conditions. Many locations will reach the triple digit early next week! Prepare & stay safe in the heat! #dfwwx #ctxwx #txwx pic.twitter.com/izGlKpXimJ
