A Fort Worth police officer shot and wounded a suicidal woman who was holding a knife Monday night after the officer “perceived a deadly threat,” the department said.
Police were called shortly after 11:30 p.m. to the 5900 block of Greenspoint Drive. A caller reported a woman was “bleeding out” and attempting suicide, the department said.
The first officer at the scene found the caller at her door, police said. The woman picked up a knife.
“As the interaction continued, the officer perceived a deadly threat from the subject and discharged their firearm, striking the subject,” the department said in a press release. The press release did not describe the deadly threat. Fort Worth police did not say how much time elapsed between the officer being on scene and shooting the woman, how many times the woman was shot, or describe whether any attempts were made to deescalate the situation before the shooting.
The department’s major-case and internal-affairs units will investigate the shooting.
