HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — Record highs will be challenged Saturday as temperatures soar into the low 90s, but heat relief is coming next week in the form of widespread thunderstorms.
A thunderstorm complex pushing in from central Texas overnight could bring neighborhoods north of I-10 some rain before sunrise, otherwise it will be a mostly dry and completely hot day in Southeast Texas. Temperatures will only cool off into the mid 70s, nearly 10 degrees warmer than average. With plentiful sunshine in the afternoon, highs will reach toward 93, which is one degree shy of the record high of 94 in 1906. We cannot rule out a stray shower or thunderstorm, but the rain chance is well below 20%.
What else can we expect for the weekend?
Sunday’s rain chance is currently at 20%. Any storm that pops up will be strong and could turn severe. Otherwise, it’s just going to be another hot and humid day. Extra clouds in the sky could keep our temperatures a little below 90, but when you factor in the high humidity it will still feel like it’s in the upper 90s.
Are anymore cold fronts on the way?
We don’t have any in our 10 day forecast, but we do have a growing chance for cooling downpours next week!
What can we expect with the storms?
Next week’s pattern supports widespread, heavy thunderstorms, but this does not look like a severe weather setup. Instead, street flooding will be our bigger concern. While there is a daily chance for downpours, the highest rain chance for now is centered around Wednesday.
