HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — You may notice a hazy look to the sky over the next few days as smoke from seasonal burns blows from Mexico and Central America toward Texas.
There could also be a foggy haze to start the day as temperatures again drop down toward the dew point in the lower 60s. We expect plentiful clouds in the sky Thursday, and some of those darker clouds could drop a little rain. Highs will peak in the low-to-mid 80s, and the rain chance is around 20%. Thursday night we’ll be watching for a thunderstorm complex over the Hill Country try to make it into Southeast Texas, but a higher chance for rain comes Friday night as another disturbance heads this way.
Is severe weather possible this week?
It’s possible that severe wind gusts and hail could accompany any of the thunderstorm complexes that reach Southeast Texas. As moisture levels rise along with the temperatures, the amount of storm fuel in the atmosphere will increase to high levels Friday and Saturday. Small upper-level disturbances passing overhead could be all it takes to ignite some strong thunderstorms.
What else can we expect for the weekend?
There is a small chance for thunderstorms both days with little difference in temperatures. Lows will be in the low 70s with highs in the upper 80s to near 90. Saturday will feel particularly hot with a heat index near 100-degrees! Sunday’s rain chance is currently at 30%. Any storm that pops up will be strong and could turn severe.
