HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — A line of heavy rain and strong storms will blow through Southeast Texas just in time for your Thursday morning commute.
When the storm line enters Southeast Texas from the north it could pack severe wind gusts over 60 mph and golf ball size hail. A brief tornado also cannot be ruled out along the leading edge of the line.
The air over Houston is more stable, so the line should weaken on its way into the city. It could still make some noise with lightning, gusty winds over 40 mph, and small hail.
The threat for severe weather will end well before 6 a.m., so while the morning commute may still be wet, we shouldn’t have to deal with any severe weather. Temperatures will dip into the mid 60s by sunrise then warm into the upper 70s during the afternoon. If enough sunshine emerges in the afternoon, some local thermometers could briefly top 80.
Another upper-level storm arrives Saturday with another cool front, and you guessed it, another chance for thunderstorms.
What does the rest of the weekend look like?
Scattered thunderstorms will be possible Saturday especially in the morning hours as our next front moves through. It will be a breezy day with northwest winds between 15-25 mph. We are a little more confident this weather system will clear out for Sunday, bringing back sunshine, low humidity, and nearly perfect outdoor temperatures.
