All lanes on a portion of Interstate Highway 35 East reopened early Sunday evening after an hours-long closure, according to the Texas Department of Transportation.
The northbound lanes near Illinois Avenue and southbound lanes near Ewing Avenue were closed for more than two hours Sunday and caused miles of traffic backup, the department’s online feed showed around 4 p.m.
The standstill was a result of downed powerlines on both sides of the highway, WFAA-TV (Channel 8) reported.
According to the department’s website, a “collision” around 2 p.m. caused the lanes to shutdown.
