Authorities found a woman’s body in Grand Prairie on Wednesday evening near the home of the man suspected of kidnapping a Collin County woman reported missing last week.
Investigators from the Collin County Sheriff’s Office and the Texas Rangers found the body in a field, the sheriff’s office confirmed. The search area was near the intersection of Kingswood and Prairie Oak boulevards, according to authorities.
Officials had not identified the remains late Wednesday, and the sheriff’s office did not release any additional information.
Kayla Kelley, 33, was reported missing Jan. 11. Her car was later found “burned beyond recognition” in Frisco, according to an arrest-warrant affidavit.
Authorities said in the affidavit that Kelley had been dating 32-year-old Ocaster Ferguson but discovered that he was married and used a false name with her. She told friends she was going to blackmail him, according to the affidavit.
Ferguson was arrested Saturday on a kidnapping charge and remains in custody, with bail set at $1 million. It is unclear whether he has an attorney.
The area where authorities found the body is less than half a mile from an address listed for Ferguson on the affidavit.
