HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — Keep protecting your pipes, covering your cold-sensitive plants, and providing warm shelter for your pets a couple more nights. A big warmup is on the way, but we have two more freezes to get through first.
Overnight lows will again bottom out in the 20s across most of the Southeast Texas away from the coast. Abundant sunshine Monday will bring us our warmest afternoon since the arctic front arrived. High temperatures will rise into the upper 50s and low 60s. Late Monday we will get glanced by another arctic front that will send temperatures back below freezing Tuesday morning.
Will we have any more hard freezes from this cold snap?
Houston is done with hard freezes from this cold snap, but rural locations outside the city could drop below 24-degrees before sunrise Monday. Otherwise the vast majority of us can expect light freezes by sunrise Monday and Tuesday.
How warm will it get later this week?
The warm front pushes in on Wednesday, which will send temperatures from the 30s in the morning to the 60s and 70s in the afternoon. By Thursday low temperatures will be back in the 60s with highs in the 70s.
Can we expect any rain this week?
Yes. With the warm front pushes humid air over the chilly Gulf shelf waters, widespread sea fog will develop Wednesday into Thursday that can bring drizzle and mist. Then an upper air disturbance approaching Thursday and Friday will bring back widely scattered showers and thunderstorms.
What is the forecast for New Year’s weekend?
New Year’s Eve looks to bring the best weather we’ve got left in 2022! The rainy weather system from Friday will clear out, bringing back sunshine. Lows will be in the 50s with highs in the 70s. We expect a dry start to the New Year at the stroke of midnight with temperatures in the upper 50s. While New Year’s Day may start fairly clear, the clouds will be pushing back in as the day progresses. These clouds will be associated with an approaching Pacific storm system that should bring back widespread showers and thunderstorms for Monday, January 2nd.
