HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — A major weather change arrives Wednesday morning that will send us from summer back to winter.
You’ll know when our next cold front reaches your neighborhood by a sudden shift to a strong north wind at 10 to 20 mph.
Temperatures will quickly tumble over 20 degrees after the front hits, and for a few hours near sunrise it will be in the upper 40s across most of Houston.
It will stay breezy throughout the day, and that dry north wind will help to clear out the clouds. Ample sunshine will warm temperatures into the upper 50s and lower 60s, about 20 degrees cooler than it was Tuesday afternoon.
How cold will it get behind this front?
Thursday morning will be our coldest with a mix of upper 30s and low 40s across most of Southeast Texas.
How long will the cold air stick around?
It’s gone by Friday. A warm front will lift back in Friday morning to bring back soupy air and sea fog.
What can we expect for the weekend?
The warm, humid air will most likely win out for most of the weekend. Saturday will start foggy and warm with low temperatures only around 70. A front will try to push through Southeast Texas, but it is expected to stall out somewhere near Houston. South of the front it will stay very warm and mild with highs near 80. North of the front temperatures will drop into the 50s and 60s. Regardless of how far south the front goes, we have a 30% chance for showers and thunderstorms in the forecast. Stay tuned as we get a better handle on how this front will impact us.
