A toddler was killed, a driver was arrested and authorities shut down Highway 121 Saturday afternoon, a Bedford spokesperson said.
At 5:30 p.m., Bedford police asked drivers to avoid the area of northbound Highway 121 at the Cheek Sparger exit and said officers anticipated a continued closure for a couple more hours.
Officers received a call about the crash about 2:30 p.m.
The arrested driver was driving a Dodge Ram pickup truck and crashed into the back the passenger side rear seat of a silver sedan, according to Bedford director of communications Molly Fox. That’s where the two-year-old girl was in her car seat. Others were also injured, though Fox didn’t have details.
Police haven’t identified the driver who was arrested. Fox said they will release the driver’s name after he is arraigned on Sunday.
