Dallas police are investigating after receiving a report last week of a child being sexually assaulted near a school in the Love Field area.
The alleged assault happened while the child was walking near the K.B. Polk Center for Academically Talented and Gifted, near Lemmon Avenue and West Mockingbird Lane, police said. Authorities received a report of the incident on Aug. 31; it was unclear whether the incident occurred the same day.
Dallas ISD officials did not immediately respond to a request for comment. The school told KDFW-TV (Channel 4) that parents were sent letters about the incident last week.
Police said the incident appears to be isolated, and there is no danger to the public.
Police did not provide any other details about the case, including whether there is a suspect description, but the school told KDFW the attacker was a large, older man wearing a blue flannel jacket.
The district told the station that there has been an effort to increase police presence in the area and that students are encouraged to walk in groups.
“It’s absolutely concerning and it’s troubling. It’s important to, once again, remain vigilant,” Dallas ISD spokeswoman Robyn Harris told KDFW. “Just to add that additional layer of safety.”
