The mother of a 7-year-old boy who died from “suspicious and extensive” injuries was arrested Tuesday after Denton police said she knew of the abuse the child was suffering.
Sabrina Ho faces a charge of injury to a child in connection with the death of Phoenix Ho. It’s unclear whether she has an attorney.
Officers were called around 7:30 p.m. Friday to a home in the 1600 block of East McKinney Street when a 911 caller said a child inside was having a medical emergency. Phoenix Ho had “suspicious and extensive injuries” and was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.
Investigators interviewed Sabrina Ho and her boyfriend, 52-year-old Todd Lofton Shaw. Shaw was arrested Saturday on a charge of injury to a child.
During a subsequent interview, Sabrina Ho told officers she was aware that Shaw was physically abusing her son, police said. She said she purposefully kept him out of school and didn’t seek medical care so that she could hide the abuse, according to police.
“Tragedies such as this one touch our entire community,” Denton police said in a written statement. “This death is a painful reminder of what we are all fighting to prevent during this April Child Abuse Awareness Month.”
Ho is being held in the Denton County jail, and her bail has not been set. Shaw remains in custody, with $1 million bail.
