Pakistan’s Asif Afridi has etched his name into cricket history by breaking a 92-year-old world record in his very first Test match. He is now the oldest cricketer to secure a five-wicket haul on debut.
Afridi, who was drafted into the team for the second and final Test against South Africa in Rawalpindi, was 38 years and 299 days old when he achieved the feat.
He surpassed the previous record, which had stood since 1933, set by England’s Charles Marriott at the age of 37 years and 332 days. Afridi was notably not selected for the first match of the series.
