Bollywood’s senior actress Jaya Bachchan is celebrating her 81st birthday today, and with it, a nostalgic episode from her past has resurfaced, this time tied to her association with Amitabh Bachchan and Rekha. According to reports in Indian media, film historian Hanif Zuberi revealed in an interview that when rumors about Amitabh and Rekha’s relationship were at its peak, Jaya Bachchan invited Rekha to lunch at her home. In the final moments of their meeting, Jaya told Rekha in plain words, “See, Amitabh was mine, is mine, and will always be mine.” Zuberi believes that this moment marked a crucial turning point, after which Rekha distanced herself from Amitabh on both a personal and professional level.
The romantic relationship between Amitabh Bachchan, a renowned Bollywood actor, and Rekha was a subject of interest for Indian media in the past. Zuberi further stated that Amitabh and Jaya’s relationship began during the filming of “Ek Nazar.” Later, when Amitabh was involved in an accident on the sets of “Kalyug,” Jaya spent days and nights by his side in the hospital. It was then that Amitabh started distancing himself from Rekha. It is worth noting that Amitabh and Jaya Bachchan got married in 1973, and they have two children, Shweta Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan. On the other hand, Rekha got married to industrialist Mukesh Aggarwal in 1990, but the marriage ended in just seven months with Aggarwal’s suicide, after which Rekha never remarried.
