Iran-US Tensions Ease as Pakistan Plays Key Role in Brokered Ceasefire
In a significant development, Iran and the United States have agreed to a two-week ceasefire, marking a major breakthrough in the region. The agreement, brokered by Pakistan, has been welcomed by the international community, with various world leaders expressing their support for the development.
Indian opposition party Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has termed US President Donald Trump’s statement on Iran’s culture as unacceptable. Gandhi stated that wars are tragic, and such language or actions that promote the destruction of a culture are unacceptable in the civilized world.
Trump, in an interview with an American news channel, said that a strike on Iran would be so severe that it would be the worst Iran has ever seen. He added that no matter what the circumstances, the use of nuclear weapons cannot be justified. Earlier, Trump had stated that Iran’s entire culture would be wiped out forever, but he did not want it to happen.
Pakistan’s role in brokering the Iran-US ceasefire has been widely acknowledged, with various international leaders praising the country’s efforts. European Council President Antonio Costa, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, and European High Representative for Foreign Affairs Josep Borrell have issued separate statements welcoming the development.
Chairman of the Kashmir Council EU, Ali Raza Syed, said that Pakistan’s role in brokering the ceasefire was commendable. The United Arab Emirates has said that its air defense has destroyed 17 ballistic missiles, while Iran has fired 35 drones.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has welcomed the Iran-US ceasefire, saying that his country is ready to negotiate a ceasefire with Russia. The situation in the Strait of Hormuz remains calm, with shipping activity limited since the ceasefire announcement.
The world market has seen a decrease in the price of crude oil, with a 21% decrease in the price of Brent crude. Pakistan’s District Administration in Islamabad has announced public holidays on April 9 and 10.
