Islamabad’s Minister of State for Interior, Tahir Chaudhry, announced on Tuesday that the suspects involved in the high-profile murder of businessman Amir Awan in Islamabad have been arrested. The suspects belong to a gang from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Speaking at a joint press conference with the Inspector General of Islamabad Police, Tahir Chaudhry expressed satisfaction with the improved law and order situation in the capital city, describing the murder as a tragic incident. He assured that all suspects involved in the case were arrested within 24 hours.
According to Chaudhry, Awan was killed during a robbery, and the Manseer Khan gang was involved in the incident. The gang is notorious for its use of bulletproof jackets. The police had difficulty accessing the area where the gang operated, as it is located in a remote region of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Chaudhry stated that the gang included Afghan nationals, and the suspects were arrested between Karachi and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Chaudhry also highlighted the challenges faced by the police in tackling the crime, citing a lack of resources, including a forensic lab and a completed Safe City project. He stated that there has been a 63% reduction in major crimes compared to the previous year. The minister announced that Islamabad would be transformed into a smart city, and efforts would be made to address the existing issues.
Regarding the investigation, the Inspector General of Islamabad Police, Ali Nasser Rizvi, stated that the case was a national-level investigation, and the police used advanced technology, including geographical mapping and artificial intelligence, to track down the suspects. Rizvi added that 6 locations were geo-fenced, 137 calls were analyzed, and 93 individuals were questioned in connection with the case.
