Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson, Saeed Khatibzadeh, has denied any direct talks with the United States, stating that the only communication between the two countries has been through third-party mediators. According to Khatibzadeh, the majority of US proposals have been unrealistic and irrational, and he expressed optimism that regional countries are making efforts to promote peace.
Khatibzadeh emphasized the need to view the situation realistically and criticized the US and Israel for trying to link the Ukraine conflict to a war against Iran. He also stated that Iranian Ambassador to Lebanon will continue to perform his duties in Beirut.
Regarding the Bushehr nuclear power plant, Khatibzadeh stressed that it is still operational and condemned the US and Israel for their “extremely dangerous” threats against it. He noted that as long as Iran is a signatory to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), it will respect the agreement, but if other countries continue to attack it, the value of the NPT will be questioned.
US President Donald Trump warned Iran that if it fails to abandon its nuclear ambitions, it may face sanctions that could potentially harm its economy. Trump claimed that Iran will eventually give up its nuclear program and transfer enriched uranium to the US.
In response to the US and Israeli threats, Iran has vowed to retaliate against American companies in the region, starting from April 1. The Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps has also stated that they will target US interests in the region.
Meanwhile, a telephone conversation between Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and European Council President Antonio Costa was reportedly positive, with both leaders expressing their commitment to peace in the region.
The German government has stated that Israel’s proposed law may only be applicable to Palestinians. Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has expressed its support for Pakistan’s efforts to end the conflict.
