Pakistan is facing a well-orchestrated and strategic disinformation campaign, where fake social media accounts are being used to spread negative propaganda against the country. According to sources, there are questions being raised about the involvement of India and Afghanistan in this campaign, where several fake accounts are believed to have been operated from these countries. Reports have revealed that dozens of social media accounts were created with Iranian identities, but their activities were being controlled from India and Afghanistan, spreading false and misleading content in the name of Iran against Pakistan.
The campaign is said to have started with fake social media accounts like INN Iran News and Iran TV, which sparked artificial reactions against Pakistan, and later the same narratives were spread by other accounts from Afghanistan. In this disinformation campaign, Pakistan was also falsely accused of assisting the US in oil transportation, which further fueled the hate propaganda. Analysts believe that the primary objective of this campaign is to make Pakistan a contentious issue globally and to portray it as part of the Iran-opposed and Western agenda, particularly at a time when Pakistan is playing a significant role in promoting peace in the region.
Experts have warned that such disinformation campaigns not only harm Pakistan but can also create anti-Pakistan sentiment, division, and chaos in the entire Muslim world, with long-term and hazardous consequences.
