The ongoing crisis in the Middle East has turned Karachi Port into a hub for shipping. In just 24 days of the current month, the port has handled more than the total number of containers shipped in the entire previous year. According to reports, war creates unique business opportunities, and Karachi Port is no exception. Being the nearest port to the Persian Gulf, Karachi Port is expecting hundreds of ships carrying millions of containers to pass through the Hormuz Strait once it opens. To avoid the losses incurred by ships not moving due to containers being left at the port, Karachi Port is gaining preference, and the process of containers being shipped out one by one is gaining momentum.
Interestingly, the port has surpassed the total number of containers handled in the previous year, with 8,313 containers shipped in just 24 days. Not only Karachi Port, but also the Port Qasim and Gwadar Port have made a mark on the global shipping lines as major ports in the region. The Iranian government’s decision to resume business during the war is seen as a positive sign, but the business activities in Pakistan’s port sector are gaining momentum.
In a related development, Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Minister Prince Faisal Bin Farhan has arrived at the Prime Minister’s House to meet with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. The Prime Minister was briefed on a proposed mobile app for the fuel support program for motorcyclists and rickshaw drivers.
