Bahrain has arrested five individuals suspected of spying for Iran, with the country’s Interior Ministry announcing the detentions on Wednesday. The ministry stated that the five men, aged between 25 and 39, are accused of gathering and providing sensitive information to Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps. One of the individuals is believed to have received training at Iranian Revolutionary Guard camps.
According to the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, the decision to conduct targeted attacks in the region has been made, with Iran using multi-role, multi-target missiles. The government claims that the detainees had obtained photographs and geographic coordinates of several key and sensitive locations in Bahrain, including hotels and other important buildings, which were then shared with Iranian forces to aid in targeting these locations.
The Bahraini government maintains that the operation was carried out to protect national security and prevent potential threats. Abbas Araghchi, Iran’s deputy foreign minister, warned that if Iran’s oil infrastructure or other critical infrastructure were targeted, the response would be clear, and Iranian forces would target American or related oil and infrastructure in the region.
